Valley News, Issue 14, Volume 10, 9 Apr 10

The Murrieta Public Library Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit organization, made its debut on March 19 at the Murrieta Public Library before a group of local leaders including Murrieta Mayor Kelly Bennett, council members Doug McAllister, Rick Gibbs, and Gary Thomasian as well as other citizens who have expressed a commitment to the goals of the founding members.

Foundation president Juanita Blankenship spoke about the foundation’s creation and goals.

She said its main purpose will be to a stronger, educated and cultured community through the library.

Blankenship explained that obtaining private funds to establish an endowment will allow the Murrieta Library’s ability to meet those needs.

Mayor Bennett expressed gratitude to the founding group and her support of the foundation and its goal to assist with the library’s
continued development. The effort will help attract businesses and families to the community, she said.

Councilman McAllister, who is credited with planting the seed for creating the foundation during his term as mayor, spoke of the importance of reading for maintaining a cultured society.

Entertainment was provided by pianist Robert Schultz and floral arrangements were donated by Michael’s Flower Girl and Albertsons. Anthony’s Lounge & Ristorante catered the event.

Additional sponsors included North County Sand & Gravel, BevMo, Bear Creek Golf Club, Callaway Vineyard & Winery, and Bill and Sandi Hargraves.
