Mission Statement
The mission of the non-profit Murrieta Public Library Foundation is to obtain private
funding and to establish endowments to augment the Murrieta Public Library's ability
to meet the cultural, educational, informational, and recreational needs of the Murrieta
community.
What We Are
The Murrieta Public Library was established April 1999 in a temporary location. The
Library opened its new 25,000 square foot facility in March 2007.
Murrieta Public
Library Foundation, Inc was formed as a non-profit corporation in 2008, and received
its tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code in early
2009. (Tax Identification Number: 26-3514473)
What We Do
We obtain private funding and endowments to augment the Murrieta Public
Library's
ability to meet the cultural, educational, informational, and recreational needs
of the Murrieta community.
To accomplish this objective, we solicit donations from
organizations and individuals wishing to contribute to and endow activities of the
Murrieta Public Library.
The funding of the Murrieta Public Library is derived from
dedicated county taxes collected from Murrieta property owners and from the City
of Murrieta.
As new Library activities are developed, new funds sources must be found to meet
the costs associated with these new activities. We provide funding for new and ongoing
Library Activities in its public areas, including the Community Room and outdoor
Garden of Verses.
Goals
- Establish, fund and administer an endowment for Murrieta Public Library programs
and events to assure a continuous funding stream through use of income from endowment
principal.
- Develop and implement a long-term fund raising campaign with the goal of providing
funds for the endowment.
- Develop a long-term capital building campaign for expansion of present facilities
when the Director of Library Services and the City of Murrieta determine such expansion
is warranted.
- Receive and administer Foundation Funds, donated for general and specific purposes.
- Receive and administer property and funds donated through the Foundation's Estate
Planning Program.
- Sponsor special events and programs, e.g. concerts, story-telling events, book fair.
Background
Library Foundations are separate non-profit organizations that share the mutual goal
of providing monetary support for the library beyond the usual revenue resources
offered by the governing agency. Murrieta Public Library Foundation seeks tax-deductible
donations in the form of "planned gifts" such as trusts, life insurance and bequests
as well as through philanthropic means such as private grants to augment library
funds. The monies raised by the Foundation provide for major goals such as enlarging
or enhancing facilities, creating cultural programs and providing for long-term accounts.
